Santa Cruz’s waves are known by a couple major spots: Pleasure Point, Steamer Lane, The Hook, Jacks/38th, the list goes on.
But, it seems impossible for these spots to house the entire surfing community in Santa Cruz. There’s just no way all these people fit into 5 or 6 spots that only have a couple breaks.
So where are all these other people going?
Here’s a little tip: if you can get away from the fear of what’s underneath you and embrace the wild frontier of open beach breaks, you’re gonna score. Just outside of the “in-town” surf spots are a host of pretty fun little waves. Usually untouched.
I won’t name names, but there are some spots around the coast that — if you can find it on a good day — you’ll never surf in-town again.
Also, who’s gonna turn down a good old fashioned beach day?
